About

The Thames Mountain Bike Club was officially formed in March 2011 with just a few like minded people coming together to create a local area for mountain bikers to ride.  The club set about liaising with land owners and key stakeholders to get an area of land allocated for trail building.  The Moanataiari MTB trails become this area.  Memorandums of understanding were drawn up and signed between the Thames Mountain bike club, Doc and LINZ.

At the same time this was happening, another small group of keen MTB'ers were in talks with Doc about getting the Hotoritori area up the Kauaeranga Valley allocated as a mountain bike trails area.  This group setup a trust called the Kauaeranga valley mountain bike trails trust and also got a Memorandum of understanding drawn up and signed with Doc.

Both groups then set about marking trails, securing funding and digging got underway.  Over the years, the Kauaeranga Valley mountain bike trails trust had its core group decline in numbers as people slowly starting moving away from the area leaving the last two remaining members struggling to maintain what trails were built, let alone contemplate building new ones, so in 2019, discussions were held between the two groups to bring under the same "TMBC" umbrella.  In August 2021, the formal process of merging began with discussions taking place with Doc regarding bringing the two separate MoU's into one.  Once this process is complete, the Kauaeranga valley trails trust will be dissolved.
